Elly Cosgrove joined the WECT team in May of 2020 as a nightside producer. Almost a year later, she transitioned into a reporting role.
Elly grew up in Wilmington and graduated from Hoggard High School in 2015. She went on to play college volleyball at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Va. where she majored in business journalism. Elly also interned for WECT News the summer after her sophomore year of college.
After graduation, Elly moved to New York City and joined CNBC as a rotating news associate. She served as a producer for Closing Bell, wrote for CNBC's digital breaking news team, and produced for CNBC's assignment desk.
Once the covid-19 pandemic hit, Elly decided to leave the city and return to her hometown station.
She hasn't looked back since and is ecstatic to be back on the coast, closer to family and telling the stories of the place that raised her. When she's not working you might find Elly playing beach volleyball, cruising down the Intracoastal Waterway or hanging out with family.
