Four dogs killed in Oak Island fire, town says that water pressure did not hinder crews

OAK ISLAND, N.C. (WECT) - The Oak Island Fire Department battled a large house fire at around 9:13 p.m. at 318 NE 41st St. on Sunday, June 4.

“Crews arrived within 6 minutes of being dispatched to find the entire home already consumed by fire,” states the Town of Oak Island in a release. “Mutual aid assistance from multiple regional agencies was provided, to both fight the fire and provide redundant coverage for the Town. The fire was fully contained within approximately 45 minutes.”

Town officials say the house is a total loss and two adjacent homes received some structural damage.

No people were injured during the fire, but four dogs were found dead in the home.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

“The Town of Oak Island and the Fire Department thank the mutual aid responders for their assistance during this event, including Boiling Spring Lakes Fire / Rescue, Brunswick County EMS, Southport Fire Department, St. James Fire Department, Sunny Point Fire & Rescue, Supply Volunteer Fire Department, Winnabow Volunteer Fire Department the Oak Island Police Department. The Town of Oak Island and the Fire Department sincerely appreciate the assistance of all responding agencies,” the town adds.

The town also released a statement in regards to rumors about water pressure and the effect that it may have had on putting out the fire.
