Man given two life sentences for 2019 double murder in Brunswick County; accomplice sentenced
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) - On Wednesday, April 12, Logan Neal Young was found guilty and Joshua Carter pleaded guilty in connection to a 2019 double homicide that occurred in Brunswick County.
A resident of Winnabow, Young was found guilty of two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon after killing two people during a drug deal. He was given two consecutive sentences of life without parole for the murder charges and a third consecutive sentence of 64-89 months for the attempted robbery charge.
Co-defendant Joshua Carter pleaded guilty on the same day to one count of accessory after the fact to first degree murder and one count of attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon. He was given a sentence of 73-100 months active.
According to prosecutors, Young had confessed to shooting and killing Xavier Stevenson and Myla Payne, who were both 19. Warrants said that Young and Carter were armed with a .44 magnum handgun and allegedly stole five ounces of marijuana and $500 in cash from Stevenson and Payne.
