Bladen Co. commissioners to schedule another public hearing on naming bridge
BLADEN COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) - At its meeting on Monday, March 20, the Bladen County Board of Commissioners held a public hearing for feedback on the naming of a new Elizabethtown bridge.
Commissioners discussed naming the bridge after two deputies who were killed in the line of duty. Bladen County Sheriff James McVicker submitted a request that the new bridge be named in honor of Deputy Sheriff James B. Collins and Deputy Sheriff Dewayne C. Hester, who lost their lives on separate occasions while serving the county.
The board motioned to schedule another public hearing in the coming months.
According to the meeting agenda, the bridge is currently under construction and will serve U.S. 701, N.C. 41 and N.C. 242 across the Cape Fear River.
During the meeting on March 6, it was recommended that James Smith’s name be added as well. You can learn more about his story here.
