LELAND, N.C. (WECT) - In a unanimous vote, Leland Town Council approved a motion to hold a public hearing for the controversial Villages at Battleship Point development project at a meeting Thursday evening.
Council members were informed that state stature obligates them to hold a public hearing.
The land is in New Hanover County and commissioners there requested more time to review the developer’s proposal.
After hitting those stumbling blocks, developers asked the Town of Leland to annex the property.
Leland’s planning board has already approved the plan but it’s up to Town Council to give the final approval.
The public hearing will be held May 19 at 6 p.m.
