UNCW to ease pandemic protocols

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - The UNCW health and leadership team decided Friday, it would ease on-campus pandemic protocols effective March 7.

From that date (the first day of spring break) onward, face coverings will be optional in most indoor locations, including classrooms and surveillance testing will be voluntary. On-campus testing will still be available.

Campus healthcare facilities and multi-passenger vehicles are the exceptions where face masks will still be required.

The decision is based on guidance from the NCDHHS and downward trends in COVID-19 cases on campus and within the community.

Unvaccinated individuals are still encouraged to wear masks indoors to protect themselves and others. Free vaccines and boosters are still available on campus and elsewhere in the community.
